Central City Birthing Unit: Kurawaka
Māia Health Foundation is thrilled that the Central City Birthing Unit (CCBU) has received approval and confirmation from Te Whatu Ora Health NZ. This remarkable facility will be housed in a section of the building that served as the temporary police station on St Asaph St following the devastating earthquakes of 2010/11.
The CCBU aims to provide exceptional care and support to expectant mothers and their babies. With a capacity to accommodate up to 2,400 births annually, this state-of-the-art unit will feature four spacious birthing rooms and 20 comfortable post-natal rooms. Mothers and their newborns will have the opportunity to stay in the unit for 2-3 days after delivery, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment during those critical early moments.
While the funding for the CCBU has been secured, there are several important elements that are not currently covered. That's where your generosity can make a significant difference. The Māia Health Foundation has taken up the vital task of raising funds for the following essential components:
