Maia Health Foundation - NZ Charity - Former Cancer Survivor Christchurch Boys High Jake Bailey

Jake Bailey -

story —

It was near the end of my final year at school when the toothache started to bother me. Little did I know that the coming days would see me diagnosed with stage four lymphoma – and the beginning of a rigorous treatment programme at Christchurch Hospital.

My diagnosis utterly changed my perspective on life. The support I’ve received from people throughout my community gave me the strength to focus on getting well. Now, I want to help others by sharing my story, and supporting the Māia Health Foundation.

While in hospital, I was acutely aware of the many opportunities to improve the facilities there, bringing them up to the same standard as the outstanding people working within them.

I’m supporting Māia because together we can make a positive difference for others. People who don’t yet know what’s around the corner, just as I didn’t.

So, I’m asking you to join with me, and Māia, to make a real difference within our health services.

Because it takes the strength of a community to get someone well again.

'Here's the thing – none of us get out of life alive. So be gallant, be great, be gracious, and be grateful for the opportunities that you have' - Jake Bailey.
