A major new charity is being launched in Canterbury, aiming to raise more than $5 million for health projects including an extension to the Christchurch Hospital's new rooftop helipad and a playground for sick children.
The Maia Health Foundation will launch on May 25 with support from cancer survivor Jake Bailey, cricketer Brendon McCullum and singer Bic Runga.
It will fundraise and administer donations for health projects; becoming somewhat like Canterbury's version of the Starship Foundation.
